STORY

We know from his niece that Sydney was kind, generous and he could not stand racism.

He also took a 17 year-old soldier under his wing, until he died.

PFC Sydney G. Dudgeon was part of B Batterie, 29th Field Artillery Battalion, 4th Infantry Division

He was killed in action when the LCT he was aboard hit a mine and sank while approaching Utah Beach.

He was among the 39 men who died in the wreckage. 50 men from 29th FAB were killed in World War Two, most of them were men from B Batterie, 29th Field Artillery Battalion, a lot of them were never recovered.
