Elmere was the son of Sheriff Howard P WRIGHT

In 1937 Elmere enters the baseball school DOAN Ray L ARKANSAS in Hot Springs

Elmere was playing minor league, he had the launcher station

It was part of the circle of the great pitchers of this league

After graduating from secondary school, he played in several team semi pro baseball

In parallel he enlisted in the National Guard, he will be assigned to Company A of the 116th Infantry Regiment

From there, he signed with the St. Louis Browns in 78 games he removes 90 batters

He will play for Mayfields Clothiers, in 1938 he integrated the Johnstown Johnnies

On February 3, 1941, he joined Ford Meade and his comrades in the 116th , he continued to play baseball for fun

In 1942 the 116th in Fort Meade leaves for Camp Blanding in Florida

The regiment will be stationed at Camp Blanding for 1 month. Then they boarded a train to Camp Kilmer (NEW JERSEY).

On arrival in Scotland the 116 th Infantry Regiment is sent to the barracks in Tidworth, near the megalithic site of Stonehenge

England Elmere is playing baseball with the Yankees of the 116th.

The team participated in an inter-weapons tounoi baseball in London

The Yankees went until the final against Fighter Command 8th USAAF and won the match This was the last game of Elmere before the 116th is put in confinement before D-Day.

Before leaving for Fort Meade, was scheduled to go play for the Mud Hens-TOLEDO and resume his throwing activity in this team after the war .

On 18 May 1944 the 116 th Infantry Regiment was held incommunicado in south east england .

Meanwhile waiting for the big day, and Hal BAUMGARTEN Elmere were throwing balls to kill time .

Hal remembers that he had to put a double sponge deep in his glove to receive the balls of Elmere.

Elmere WRIGHT: a baseball player killed in France

San Antonio baseball fans, sullen after the fall of the Browns and the threat of their departure from the top of the American League, which they have miraculously hung on all these last weeks, will find a new reason for sorrow in the new qu Elmere Wright, who had been a member of the Browns and had started for a while for the San Antonio club of the Texas League around 1939 and 1940, died in action in France.

The big pitcher was not a regular Missions player but he was promising and when the war broke out, he was on the reserve list of the Browns Toledo American Association, scheduled for a new spring test the following year . Friendly boy, his death will be deplored in the people he met here and related to the Browns School Club.
