The american cemetaries of Draguignan is military and was created in august 1944 , he is located in Draguignan (Var).

 

He was opened by the Dr Angelin German when the city was freed by the 551th american batallon.


On a green space of 5 hectares are gathered the graves of 861 American soldiers, among which 62 unknowns, deaths during the fights of 1944, during the reconquest of the South of France.

 




It is a unique place in the southeast of France because he honors the allied landing of August 15th, 1944, in an operation called « Anvil Dragoon ».

A wall of the missing persons contains the name of 294 Americans bodies of which were never found or identified.

Pressed on the wall of the missing persons, a gigantic sculpture,

" The Angel of the peace " stay up the chapel which shelters magnificent mosaics.
