Erich Emil Post was born on February 10, 1923 in Drosedow, Kolberg, Pommern, then Prussia, part of Germany.
He was the son of Emil Richard Post, a farmer, and his wife Ida Frieda Schwerdtfeger.
His parents emigrated to the USA from Germany in 1924, sailing from Bremen when Erich Emil was about 1 year old.
The family first lived in Rock Creek, Butler County, Kansas, and then seemed to have moved to Waukesha County, Wisconsin.
Private Post had 6 siblings: Frieda Charlotte, born in 1920; Willie Otto, born in 1921; Nelda Lorna, born in 1924; Albert Theodore, born in 1932; Lila Katherine, Born in 1934; and Shirley Ann, born in 1941.
He was the third eldest child.
Private Post was part of the 480th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic-Weapons Battalion (the 480th AAA AW), which left New York for England in February 1944. His battalion then went to France in July 1944.
Private Post died in the line of duty in France on August 14, 1944.
