STORY

With 35 missions and 22 sorties to his credit over France, Second Lieutenant Robert E. Turner, pilot of a P-38 fighter, today has been reported as missing in action since Aug. 8.

News that the young lieutenant is missing was received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert D. Turner of 619 South Thirtieth street in a telegram from the Adjutant General's office.

Lieutenant Turner, who holds the Air Medal, arrived in England last April 30, and was transferred to combat duty a month later, when the first big drive in Normandy took place.

He has been in military service for five years, joining the National Guard first, inducted with the group into the regular Army shortly after Pearl Harbor and transferring to the Air Force almost two years ago.

Lieutenant Turner received flight training in Southern California and received his wings Jan. 3, 1943.
