The 29th Infantry Division was a unit of the National Guard to fill its staff the staff added new soldiers from New York

On the evening of June 5, 1944, in Portland, Alexander and his comrades of the 116th Infantry Division embarked on the Javelin Empire. Commanded by Captain McLean, the ship carries 1,300 soldiers, almost all of Bedford origin, as well as 18 landing craft.

The disembarkations at Vierville were to be preceded by aerial and naval bombardments, in the half-hour before H-hour, intended to soften all the known positions and to demoralize the German troops. Day D and H were fixed so that the first waves of assault would be landed at dawn and with a low tide to discover the underwater obstacles of the beach. This timing was important. He imposed on the first waves the crossing from 250 to 300m uncovered on the beach, and it gave 30 minutes to the engineers to clear passages in the middle of the obstacles before the arrival of greater forces and reinforcements, at high tide.

On June 6, the sea was low at 5:25 am, high at about 10:30 am, the sun was rising at 5:58 and H was set at 6:30 am.

The company A / 116 was to land with its supporters in tanks and engineering against Vierville-sur-Mer on the area of Dog Green facing the Wn71 and Wn72. Their objective was to seize the descent of Vierville then regroup to the south of Vierville before going towards the objectives inside.

On June 6, 1944, when the LCA hit the ground on Dog Green at OMAHA BEACH, the first to descend was 1st Lieutenant Alfred S ANDERSON followed by PVT Alexandre F DOMINGUEZ.
