STORY

The 1st Infantry Division leaves New York on August 1, 1942

She arrives at Beaminster in south-west England.

After training and maneuvering, the division left the country for North Africa on October 22, 1942 or she landed on November 8, 1942 in Oran (Algeria)

The 1st Infantry Division participates in Operation Torch where it fights from January 22 to May 9, 1942

In July 1943, she participated in Operation Husky in Sicily.

Lieutenant General George S PATTON had expressly requested the 1st Infantry Division for this assault.

On November 5, 1943, the division returned to England to prepare the invasion of Normandy.

On June 6, 1944, she landed with the elements of the 29th Division on Utah Beach. Some units lost more than 30% of their workforce during the first hour.

The division went to Formigny and Caumont
