STORY

After her engagement Hillary is posted to the 23rd Armored Engineer Battalion, 3rd Armored Division.

In September 1943 the battalion landed in ENGLAND where it was stationed at Fonthilll Bishop, WILTSHIRE.

On June 23, 1944 the 23rd landed at Omaha Beach with Lieutenant Colonel Lawrence G FOSTER at his head.

One of the 23rd's missions was to rebuild the bridges that had been destroyed in Normandy and on the American Army's axes of progress.

On July 18, 1944, Hillary is badly wounded, he will be treated for his wounds in a hospital. it will also be operated on appendicitis.

Cured Hillary is assigned to the 389th Military Police Battalion.

The 389th was responsible for the management of German prisoners.

On March 23, 1945 the 389th is moved to Le Havre.

On the road to this city Hillary will die as a result of a car accident in the area of ​​Le Mans.

His remains will be buried in the temporary cemetery of St Andre de l'Eure.

It's his sister Elma who will decide that Hillary's body stays in France.

On June 2nd, 1949 his body is transferred to the cemetery of Colleville sur Mer
