STORY | |||||||
Young 25-year-old American pilot of a P38J-15-LO Lightning registered 43-28706, coded: 9D. He had left from the base of Andover UK, for a reconnaissance / bombing mission over Touraine. the aircraft was hit by light flak fire from the ground when he was about to drop his bombs. probably also hit by the bombs dropped by his wingman, Lt Childs. Lt Pavlovsky evacuated his plane, but probably too low. The parachute did not fully deploy; he fell heavily while crossing the roof of a barn, causing his death, at a place called La Jugeraie in Ste Maure de Touraine, Indre and Loire. The burial place is not registered, but probably in the municipal cemetery. His body was raised in August 1946 and buried in the US Military Cemetery of St André de l'Eure, Plot H, Row 7, grave 139. Finally and definitively buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Plot B, Row 11, grave 28 | |||||||
