STORY

Name of B 17 F "CONCHO CLIPPER"

Westover MASSACHUSETTS Field Training

Missing for 2 years before his grave was found in a small French village (name unknown)

Nahannie was a left machine gunner near a B 17 F registered 42-29838

Info taken in interview of his brother William BADER who was assigned to the 5th Infantry Division 2nd Infantry Regiment

William received the silver star for bravery

This bomber took off from 110 POLEBROOK station (UK)

Nahannie died during the attack on the submarine base of St NAZAIRE mission number 61

The aircraft was harassed by FW 190s.

They had just unloaded their bomb cargo when an 88mm (FLAK) shell exploded in the bomb bay.

This shell kill 3 artillerymen one of them was Nahannie

The pilot Colonel J. JR. RUSSEL dived to extinguish the fire of the 2 right engines.

Unable to regain control of the aircraft, the Colonel ordered the ejection.

all survivors were taken prisoner, captive for 2 years //

The plane crashed at Ploeren on May 29, 1943
