Pvt Louis J Pellerin was a member of the 25th Armored Engineer Battalion, which was part of the 6th Armored Division.
This Division was created on February 15, 1942 at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and was made up almost entirely of citizen draftee soldiers.
Its training stations were Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, Louisiana Maneuvers, the Mojave Desert, and Camp Cooke, California.
The Division arrived in England in February 1944 and landed at Utah Beach on July 18, 1944 and spent most of its time in Europe under General George S. Patton’s Third Army.
It was the job of the 25th Armored Engineer Battalion to clear mines, bridge rivers, manage explosives and to act as infantry riflemen when ordered to do so.
This was presumably what Pvt Pellerin faced every day.
He was killed in action in Plabennec – Plouvien on the campaign towards Brest.
He received a Purple Heart.
