After 3 years of high school, he worked as a lumberjack, in 1942 before his enlistment, he married Virginia Lee Greer at Diston Cottage Grove in Oregon.
He lived in Lane County at Mosby Creek near Blue Mountain.
After his basic training, he was sent to the shooting school at Sheppard Field in Texas in March 1943, then in October, November 1943, for crew training, and he arrived in England at Molesworth Station 107 on November 14, 1943. | ||||||
|
Most of the crew had completed 5 missions, the mission of 11 January 1944, to bomb an assembly plant of FW 190 fighters in Oscherleben in Germany. The target was successfully achieved, but on the return, the formation was targeted by many fighters; the Baltimore Bounce was shot down by the DCA or a fighter. All the crew will be killed, they will be found on January 13, 1944 by the inhabitants and buried worthily in coffins. The B17 crashed on the barn of the Wrenger family, Horts the son was 12 years old at the time and remembered the accident very well. He will later post his testimony on the internet, he will be contacted by Mr. and Mrs. Bolesta, descendants of 2Lt Joseph Burton KYNE who was on the plane. They will meet in 2015, and on this occasion a commemorative plaque will be placed at the cemetery of Laubke. |
