Corporal William John Lamb, born 14 May 1924, was the son of William M and Dorothy Louise (Davis) Lamb of 438 Ray Avenue, New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas County, Ohio. New Philadelphia is in central Ohio 47 miles south of Akron. He left a wife, Alvera, and one child in Rapid City, SD.
In the 1940 census 16-year-old William is living with his parents and siblings Dorothy 14, Larry 9, and Donald 6, at 136 2nd Street SW in New Philadelphia. His father is manager of an upholstery shop.
William enlisted in the Army Air Corps 24 Feb 1943. William married Alvera Rose O'Rourke while in training on 23 Aug 1944 at Rapid City, South Dakota.

After his death, Alvera remarried Earl Robison 14 Feb 1948 in Rapid City. They had six children. She passed away in Denver 5 Oct 2006.

The 306th remained in the theater after V-E Day as part of United States Air Forces in Europe and engaged in special photographic mapping duty in western Europe and North Africa (in case we had to fight the Soviets).

William is not listed in the NARA WWII casualty listings by state and county as his death was too long after the end of hostilities.

William died in the line of duty 10 Jun 1946 presumably in a plane crash while part of the mapping program. I found no information on his death as information on the mapping program was tightly controlled.
