|
Before the war, Sub-Lieutenant BAER lived in Indianapolis, Indiana. On 14 October 1943, B 17 took off from station 138 at Snetterton Beach in England, the mission bombed the ball bearing factory at Schweinfurt in Germany. The plane was shot down around 3 p.m. The report of the Gendarmerie of Bar le Duc on October 15, 1943. Following an air battle at 3 p.m., an aircraft bearing a white star on its wings in the middle of a dark blue circle fell into flames in Auzecourt, Canton of Révigny, or Vavincourt (according to the sources). While the rudder fell into a meadow 150 meters from the first houses, the rest of the plane hit the ground burning 2 houses without causing any casualties. Lt BAER’s body was discovered in a field about 100 metres from the plane. No identification possible. |
