STORY | |||||||
| Eugene served as a First Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-24H #42-94905, 846th Bomber Squadron, 489th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He resided in Jefferson County, Missouri and was a member of the Missouri National Guard prior to the war. His National Guard unit was called into full time active Army service on December 23, 1940, prior to the war, from Fostus, Missouri. He was noted, at that time, as being employed as a Sales clerk and also as Divorced, with dependents. B-24H #42-94905 took off from Station 365, Halesworth, England on a bombing mission over St. Lo, France. They were hit by ground anti-aircraft fire that caused a fire on board and blew part of their left wing off causing them to crash near Saint-Lô, France during the war. Only one crew member was able to parachute out before the crash (see below). Eugene was "Killed In Action" in this crash. |
