TSgt Henry S. Brenzo was the assigned radio operator on B-17F # 42-30115, assigned to the 419th Bomb Squadron. On November 16, 1943, the crew was sent, along with a formation of bombers, to attack the facilities at the airbase located in Istres Le Tube, France. As the formation neared the target area, a number of German fighters attacked. Making several firing passes, and raking the formation with machine gun and cannon fire, they managed to shoot down the B-17 carrying Brenzo. No parachutes were seen coming from the stricken ship. It crashed into the sea, killing all crew members. No remains were ever recovered. | ||||||
