STORY

Remembering Techician Fifth Grade Ralph H. Wimer on his birthday.
Ralph was born July 5, 1921, in Pendleton County, West Virginia.
He enlisted in the Army on October 14, 1942, and volunteered for the paratroopers.

At Camp Toccoa, Georgia, he was placed in Easy Company, 506th PIR. Ralph served in company HQ.

He was injured in a training parachute jump in January, 1944, but recovered for the D-Day jump into Normandy, on June 6, 1944.
Sadly, the plane that carried Ralph and most of company HQ, along with company commander Lt Thomas Meehan, was shot down over Normandy and crashed with no survivors. Ralph left behind a mother, sister, and fiancée.
He and his fellow Easy Company brothers were buried together in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St Louis.
There now stands a memorial to the men who lost their lives on D-Day near where plane #66 crashed, at Beuzeville au Plain, Normandy

Son of Pinckney Brady Wimer and Lillie Mae Wimer. Graduate of Circleville High School class of 1939.

Engaged to be married to Miss Naomi H. Lambert of Huntington.
He was a member of Easy Company.
