Florant PLANA:
Today, I had the privilege of meeting a wonderful lady by the name of Rose Morozewicz.
Rose's older brother, Edward Morozewicz, a member of the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, was one of the first casualties during the Normandy Invasion on June 6, 1944.
Pvt; Edward Morozewicz, landed on Omaha Beach as part of the first wave. As a combat medic, he put his life on the line to save the lives of wounded soldiers. Sadly, Pvt Morozewicz was shot in his stomach trying to fulfill his duty. Another medic from F Co, 16th Infantry Regiment, named Charles Shay tried desperately to save his life but was unsuccessful.
A few weeks after this tragic day, Edward's family received a telegram to inform them that their beloved one had died. For more than 70 years, they didn't know how he died and it was very difficult for the family to move on. Finally, two years ago, Rose met with Charles Shay and learned about the cause of her brother's death. Rose was comforted knowing that her brother died with a friend by his side.
Thank you Pvt Edward Morozewicz for your service to save the lives of others.
Thank you Rose and the Morozewicz family for the sacrifice you made to ensure the freedom of others.
