Raymond R. Rice was born in Edwards County, Illinois in 1921. He enlisted in the Regular Army for service in the Philippine Department, on September 26, 1940 at East St Louis, Illinois. His home of residence was listed as Edwards County, Illinois and his civilian occupation was listed as Semiskilled Chauffeurs And Drivers, Bus, Taxi, Truck, And Tractor. He had completed one year of High School and was single with no dependents. His religion was listed as Protestant. The date of his assignment to the 22nd Infantry is unknown but he was serving as a Private with Company B 22nd Infantry at least by October 1941 as he is in a Company photo taken at Fort Benning, Georgia during that time frame. The date of Rice's promotions are unknown. In the Morning Reports for Company B he is recorded as being reduced from the rank of Technician 5th Class to Private on April 11, 1944 at Newton Abbot, Devon, England. He is entered in the casualty lists as killed in action with the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Rice was killed in action in France during the battle for Cherbourg |
