STORY | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Kelly of Route Two, Winnfield, have been informed by the War Department that their son, Pvt. John W. Kelly, 19, was killed in action in France on July 10. They received the message last Friday. A member of an infantry division, Pvt. Kelly had only been in service nine months. He had been overseas since April. Born at Gaars Mill, he attended the Gaars Mill High School until he moved with his parents to Route Two, Winnfield, a few years ago. He was a member of the New Hope Church. He received his training at Camp Wheeler, Ga., and Camp Wolters, Texas. Besides his parents, he leaves two brothers, Carson and Jimmy; three sisters, Mildred Jane, Nettie Mae, of Route Two, and Mrs. Willie Varnell, who resides near the Rock Quarry. He is also survived by his two grandfathers, Jasper Kelly and John A. Gaar of Gaars Mill. Published in The Winn Parish Enterprise (Winnfield, LA), August 3, 1944 |
