Warren M. "Jack" Devore, born 23 Apr 1923 died 16 Nov 1944. This is his full name...., Photo taken May 24, 1942 in front of Nurses' Home, Talladega, Al. Jack was in the hospital for appendix surgery when he met Mavis Strozier, a nurse in training.

The 417th was deployed on the Mediterranean theater and superseded to the XIIth Air Force.

Before the arrival of the P-61 "Black Widow" night fighters the squadron was largely equipped with English aircraft.

 Thus in 1944 the 2Lt. Jack De VORE was at the controls of a Beaufighter mk. VI-F registered KW197 and named "Lois Mae II" with the 2Lt. Willam E. GRINNELL.

They were sent early in the night on 16 November 1944 to intercept an enemy aircraft.

At 21:05 the crew confirmed that they had taken on the wanted aircraft. The last signal was issued at 21:09, the Beaufighter and its crew gave no sign of life.
