STORY

Arturo Carlo Felice MATHIEU, second of the name, was born in Cagliari in Sardinia in 1911.

He studied at the University of Florence from 1931 to 1933 and that of London during the summer of 1933 before leaving for the United States at the age of 23.

He first worked at Swarthmore University in PENNSYLVANIA on the remainder of the year '33 and part of the following year.

He taught French and Spanish from 1934 to 1937. He changed schools several times until 1938 through Villanova College, Princeton Graduate School and Lawrenceville.

In 1941 he married Belle Howard Huber with whom he had a son, Arthur C MATHIEU III in August 1943.

Shortly after 2 October 1943 he joined the armed forces.

His linguistic skills systematically directed him to the young Office of Strategic Services, the ancestor of the CIA.

The 2677th OSS Regiment then in formation was to serve as the field action unit for the command of the OSS.

It was thus created zvec the aid of the 5th US Army on July 15, 1944 in Algiers before being transferred Ceserta to Italy under the official command of the OSS in November of the same year.

The death of the CPT. Arturo MATHIEU remains very little documented because of the confidential nature of the missions entrusted to his regiment.

We know that he was parachuted into France shortly before his death.
