Historique bataille pour Tinchebray du 12 au 14 août 1944Samedi 12 août : Le 175th attaque une colline à 1.000 mètres à l'ouest et une autre au Sud de Saint-Sauveur-de-Chaulieu. Une grosse opposition d'Artillerie l'oblige à Stopper à 16h30, au Nord-est de la ville. Le 116ème, à l'entraînement, est assignés aux défenses de Vire. Le 115ème est en réserve. Dimanche 13 août : La 29th Division d'Infanterie, passé sous le contrôle du Vème Corps hier, se prépare avec la 2ème Division d'Infanterie à capturer Tinchebray. Le 175th a trois objectifs : Saint-Sauveurs-de-Chaulieu, Saint-Martin-de-Chaulieu et le Fresne-Forêt. L' attaque commence à 8h00 contre l'Artillerie lourde. Peu après midi, les deux premiers objectifs sont gagnés. Après une résistance modérée de l'Infanterie et de l'Artillerie allemandes, le régiment atteint la Francaissière à 22h00. Pendant que le 175ème menait son attaque, les 115ème et 116ème s'entraînaient au tir et à l' assaut des haies. La 29th Division d'Infanterie a gagné 3.200 mètres aujourd'hui. Lundi 14 août : Le 175th reprend son attaque avec pour objectif : Le Fresne-Forêt, Saint-Jean-de-Bois et, si possible, l'objectif de Division : Yvrandes. Dans la matinée, le premier objectif est atteint , atteint , mais une grosse résistance est rencontrée aux abords de Saint-Jean-le-Bois.
