The 31^stAir Transport Group of the 302^ndAir Transport Wing was the air transport component of the Ninth Air Force’s IX Service Command.

The 31^stwas comprised of the 313^th, 314^th, 315^th, 316^th, 317^th, 318^th, and 319^thAir Transport Squadrons and the 310^th, 325^th, and 326^thFerry Squadrons. 

Based in Grove, England, the 31st Air Transport Group played a critical role in the logistics system of the Ninth Air Force, flying cargo and personnel in support of combat operations. 

After the invasion of Normandy, the 31st Air Transport Group was assigned the task of operating a mail carrier service between England and the continent in addition to transporting materiel and personnel.
