The 31stAir Transport Group of the 302ndAir Transport Wing was the air transport component of the Ninth Air Force’s IX Service Command.

The 31stwas comprised of the 313th, 314th, 315th, 316th, 317th, 318th, and 319thAir Transport Squadrons and the 310th, 325th, and 326thFerry Squadrons. 

Based in Grove, England, the 31st Air Transport Group played a critical role in the logistics system of the Ninth Air Force, flying cargo and personnel in support of combat operations. 

After the invasion of Normandy, the 31st Air Transport Group was assigned the task of operating a mail carrier service between England and the continent in addition to transporting materiel and personnel.
