STORY

William moves with his family to Milledgeville

He enters the GEORGIE Military College at the West Point Military Academy where he is posted to the F Howitzer Company F

After graduation, he is sent to the Van de Graft Field ALABAMA for his flying training.aile pilote


10 cavalry Subsequently William is assigned to 10th Cavalry at Fort Riley KANSAS.



December 1941 he is transferred in armor to Camp Pine NEW YORK 4th Armored Division where he remained until April.

William is then posted to the 8th Armored Division at Fort Knox

July 1942 William is transferred to paratroopers at Camp Toccoa

William was one of the first officers of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment that had just been created
William was stationed Fort Benning, Mackall Camp & Fort Bragg

In Toccoa, William has the rank of captain and assigned to the 3rd Section of the regiment
It will be patented paratrooper at Camp Toccoa
In August 1943 the 506th PIR leaves for England

William's unit was blocked by strong enemy resistance.
William went to see for himself the forces involved.
William made contact with the tanks that were to support his unit. He even went as far as to enter the tank to direct fire on the German positions.
Thanks to these shots the enemy position was destroyed.
