Second Lieutenant Quentin Earl Cadd, born 2 Jul 1920, was the son of George Washington Cadd and Amanda Ethel (Eskew) Cadd of Gallia County, Ohio.

 In the 1920 census Amanda Cadd was pregnant with Quentin. George and Amanda were living in Marmett, Kanawha County, West Virginia with Virginia 8, George Jr 5, Myrtle 3, and Iva 1. George was a loader in a coal mine.

 Quentin’s father moved the family to Huntington Township, Gallia County, Ohio and began farming. Huntington Township is 92 miles southeast of Columbus.

 In the 1930 census 10-year-old Quentin is living with his parents and siblings Virginia 18, Madeline 17, George Jr 15, Myrtle 13, Iva 12, Louise 7, Leon 5, and Jack 3, on a farm in Huntington Township, Gallia County, Ohio. His father is a general farmer.

 Quentin’s father died 22 Jun 1937 at age 54.

 In the 1940 census 20-year-old Quentin is living on the farm with his widowed mother and siblings Louise 17, Leon 15, Jack 13, and Velma 5.

 Quentin’s mother died 4 Aug 1940 at age 51.

 Quentin enlisted 1 Jan 1942 at Fort Knox, Kentucky. After pilot training he was assigned to the 758th Bomb Squadron of the 459th Bomb Group. The 459th Bomb Group was flying B-24s out of Giulia Airfield in the massive Foggia air complex in southern Italy. Giulia is 25 miles ESE of Foggia and 4 miles northwest of Cerignola. The 459th BG (Heavy) engaged in very long-range strategic bombing missions to enemy military, industrial and transportation targets in Italy, France, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, and Greece.

 Quentin married Evelyn Thomas 11 Jan 1944 in Franklin County (Columbus), Ohio. He left the states for Italy in late April or early May.

 Lt Cadd was Co-Pilot of B-24 42-94935 piloted by 1st Lt John Kalie. The Kalie crew arrived in Italy in May 1944.

 The NARA WWII casualty listings by state and county for West Virginia show Cadd, Quentin E, 2Lt from Kanawha County as killed in action 24 Jul 1944.

 From Airforce dot togetherweservered dot com: On 24 July 1944, Lt Cadd was the co-pilot of a B-24H (tail number 42-94935) with a crew of 9 men that took off from Giuilia #1 Airfield, Italy with 54 other aircraft. The mission bombardment of the German fighter airfield at Les Chapoine, France (Les Chapoine Airfield (Les Chanoines, Airfield near Istress-le-Tube Airfield).

En route to the target, the flight had been attacked by German fighters. The pilot, Lt. Kallie, was seen to salvo his bomb load after that. The aircraft was seen to continue over the target. It was then brought down by an 88-mm shell/FLAK that exploded just in front of the nose turret and one hit the bomb bay causing a fire which totally engulfed the internal area of the aircraft according to the reports. More information listed on the MACR regarding 4 others seen to drop out of the aircraft with no parachutes, and the aircraft disintegrated before crashing. Came down near Fos sur Mer, France.

Evelyn was three months pregnant when Quentin was killed. Quentin Earl Cadd Jr. was born 14 Jan 1945

Evelyn remarried Edward Eugene Amos in Greenup County, Kentucky in 1948. They had one child. Edward passed away in 1997. Quentin Jr died in 2000 at age 55 of injuries sustained in an accident. Evelyn passed away in 2011 in Logan, Hocking County, Ohio.
