Glenn Harrison Allen was born May 25, 1920, at Viborg, Turner County, South Dakota, to Ralph and Sophia Allen.

He had a brother and two sisters. Glenn graduated from Yankton High School in 1939 before attending Yankton College for two years.

His first experience in flight training was with the Civil Pilot Training program at Yankton in 1940.
Glenn entered active service on March 27, 1942, at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

He served in the ground forces until he entered flight training in the Air Forces. Training at Mobile, Alabama, and Stuttgart, Arkansas, Allen was appointed a flight officer on December 16, 1942. For six months, F/O Allen served in Alaska, where he “engineered the first glider transportation of supplies from Anchorage to Kiska.”

Allen was sent overseas on February 27, 1944, to the European theater, and was stationed in England for the next six months; he “assisted in engineering the organization of a glider train for the first invasion of France on D-Day, June 6. Then Fl O Allen was sent to Italy “for a month before the invasion of Southern France.”

Glider Pilot and Flight Officer Glenn Allen, 92nd Squadron, 439th Troop Carrier Group, was killed in action on August 15, 1944, during the Invasion of Southern France.
Glenn Allen is buried at Plot B, Row 4, Grave 7, Rhone American Cemetery, Draguignan, France. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
